The mission of the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) is to promote the health of Canadians through diabetes research, education, service and advocacy.
A wide variety of diabetes resource material is available at the Branch office, including information pamphlets and cookbooks. CDA also publishes newsletters on a quarterly basis and "Diabetes Dialogue" (a magazine for people with diabetes and their families). Parents and caregivers of children with diabetes have formed a Parents Support Group which meets monthly to share information on all aspects of living with diabetes. Parties and activities are arranged for the families at Easter, Halloween, Christmas and March Break. CDA is one of the partners with Healthy Living Lambton.
Summer Camp
The CDA camping program offers children with Type 1 diabetes the opportunity to fully enjoy a camping experience. Children gain self-confidence, establish friendships and learn about themselves. Under quality medical, dietary and program supervision campers also improve their understanding of living with diabetes. Applications for diabetes camp are also available at the office, as are applications for a subsidy. Since financial resources are limited, early application for camp financial assistance is advised.
