The cadet corps are the joint responsibility of the military and the Army, Navy and Air Cadet Leagues of Canada. Whereas instructing officers are members of the Canadian Forces Reserves, cadets are civilians.
The air, army and sea cadet corps promote leadership, good citizenship and physical fitness for youth ages twelve to eighteen years. There is no cost to join the cadet corps with uniforms, transportation and training being provided free of charge. The cadet programs begin the first week after Labour Day and run until late May or June. Summer training courses are provided at various locations throughout Canada. Overseas exchange programs are available for senior cadets.
