Ontario Child Care Supplement for Working Families
The Ontario Child Care Supplement for Working Families (OCCS) is a tax-free monthly payment to help with the costs of raising children under the age of seven. The OCCS program is intended to assist working families earning modest incomes. The amount of supplement depends on family income, qualifying child care expenses, the number of children under age seven in the family and monthly child care costs (if subsidized).
The Ontario Ministry of Revenue sends OCCS applications to eligible families. The supplement is not paid automatically. Individuals must complete an application each year to verify personal information and confirm whether their child care costs are subsidized. There is a gradual decline in supplement amounts as income increases for families with net incomes over $20,000, thereby focusing maximum benefits on low-income working families, and providing reduced benefits to many middle-income families. If you receive the Canada Child Tax Benefit and did not receive an OCCS application, call the toll free number. You will be sent a replacement application or you will be advised if you do not qualify.
