The W. Ross Macdonald School offers a full range of educational services to students who are blind or visually impaired in accordance with Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines. The School also offers a special program for students who are both deaf and blind. The Elementary School provides educational programming for students from grade one to eight, with admission considered at age five years. The Secondary Program leads to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. A non-credit program and an ungraded secondary school program are also offered for those students who are unable to meet Ministry guidelines, with the focus of these programs being on daily living and independence skills. 

The School provides supportive, comfortable residence facilities for students for whom daily commuting from home is either impractical or impossible. Upon reaching age 18, students are offered the opportunity to participate in the residence apartment program.

Staff from this program offer a wide variety of services to blind, visually impaired and deafblind students living and attending school in their own communities, their families and school boards throughout Ontario. Consultants conduct assessments of students, provide program suggestions to schools and also professional development to teachers and consultants serving students. 

Resource Services Library (519) 759-2522

The Resource Services Library at the W. Ross Macdonald School provides materials in Braille, large print and audio tape to students who are print disabled and attending Ontario's elementary and secondary schools. These materials are also available to students registered in courses at colleges and universities as well as to approved private vocational schools. Materials requested are loaned free of charge for the academic school year. 

The Sight Substitution Centre 1-800-434-2105

The Sight Substitution Centre is an assessment centre, under the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Assistive Devices Program, in partnership with the W. Ross Macdonald School. Clients come to us in order to obtain funding for the purchase of high tech reading and writing equipment related to vision loss. Under "Vision", the Assistive Devices Program provides partial funding to clients for reading and writing aids for personal/home use.
