ARCH is a non-profit community legal clinic dedicated to defending and advancing the equality-rights of persons with disabilities through litigation, law and policy reform, education and community development. Although ARCH is physically based in Toronto, services are available to people with disabilities from across Ontario. Approximately sixty-five disability consumer/survivor services and service delivery organizations are member groups of ARCH, and these member groups are consulted regularly regarding priorities and future directions for ARCH. ARCH is funded by Legal Aid Ontario, and receives grant funding from other sources from time to time, but also relies on the donations of individuals.
ARCH maintains a specialized library of books, periodicals and audiotapes on law, public/social policy, and community development as they relate to disability issues. People are welcome to use it if arrangements are made in advance.
Legal Representation
ARCH directly represents clients only in precedent-setting cases. Other cases are referred to community legal clinics or the private bar. Telephone consultation, legal advice and referral to other legal and community services are provided at no cost.
Legal Education
ARCH's legal education program assists individuals with disabilities to understand their rights and how to enforce them. ARCH also informs and educates other key stakeholders (legal, political, workplace, educational, health, families and the general public) about disability issues.
