The Inn of the Good Shepherd runs a variety of programs, diverse in serving those in our community who are in need of food, shelter, and other assistance. We are a non-profit registered charitable organization that is supported by a broad based group of volunteers drawn from the Sarnia/Lambton community. 

Our programs include the following: 

Soup Kitchen
 

Hours of Operation: Mon-Fri 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  Sat & Sun 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
        
Funded by donations from the community. Volunteer staff prepare and serve hot meals on a daily basis. Our Soup Kitchen is located at 115 John St., please use the Devine St. entrance. 

Food Bank
 

Hours of Operation: Mon-Fri 9:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. 

Funded by donations from the community. The Food Bank can be accessed every 21 days. In order to obtain your Food Bank card, please bring a piece of photo ID with you. The Food Bank is located at 115 John St., please use the Devine St. entrance. 

Homelessness Initiative
 

Hours of Operation:        Monday to Friday  9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  

Jointly funded with the Corporation of the County of Lambton, this program provides assistance and advocacy for our clients. We assist with rent, utility arrears, and emergency shelter. We also connect clients with a wide range of community resources. The program is run from our location at 115 John St. Please call (519) 344-1746 for an appointment. 

The Haven - Youth Housing Program
 

Located at 442 and 444 Kathleen Ave., Sarnia, ON. Jointly funded with the Ministries of Community and Social Services and Children and Youth Services and the Corporation of the County of Lambton. This program provides short-term co-ed shelter for young adults aged 16-21. The goal of the program is to secure a source of income and permanent housing for the participants. The staff also teaches basic life skills and assists in reintegrating residents to educational opportunities. For more information, please contact the Program Coordinator at (519) 336-5941. 

Genesis Program
 

Hours of Operation:        Tues 12:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. 

Genesis is a start-up program that offers clothing and small household items to those who are in need. This program is run free of charge. The Genesis room is located in the basement of our location at 115 John St., please use the Devine St. entrance.

Cooking On A Shoestring
 

A 4-6 week course run jointly with West Lambton Community Health Centre.

Income Tax Clinics
 

Volunteer clinics to assist clients in completing their annual returns. Run in March and April, by
appointment. 

Birthday Club
 

Families can receive one gift for a child up to age 12.

MAKING A DONATION 

The Inn relies on the generous financial support of community members to operate our programs. We also accept donations of food and clothing. You can make a donation in person or mail a cheque to our office at 115 John St. Sarnia, ON N7T 2Z1.

Editor's Note: The Inn of the Good Shepherd is in the initial stages of developing a permanent homeless shelter for adults ages 21 years and older. It is hoped that this facility, which will have 20 beds for emergency shelter use and 20 beds in apartment-style units for longer-term transitional housing, will be open by late 2007 or early 2008.
